It’s going to be a busy day today. Out and about for most of it. So it’s time to stop tracking the channel and get on with my day!
I had lunch with Lori today. My belated birthday lunch. I have included this pic because it is so great to see her smile again! Lori has been through hell and back over the last few years. She has a sister with breast cancer (who refuses to talk to her), her brother died about 18 months ago, she was misdiagnosed and incorrectly medicated by the “experts” leading to serious effects on her life and her relationships. She has been off work more that working over the past few years and now she is finding the courage to go back to work. Lori is a survivor. She battled through it all. I am so very proud of her.
I asked her if she had any input for our “family” here. She said that if she could urge people to do one thing it would be to talk more freely about things like mental illness and depression. She said that until we start talking about it openly we will not reduce the stigma. Imagine trying to go back to work when the workplace you left is convinced you are a mental case? She can bring all the doctor’s notes in the world to tell them that what happened to Lori was not of her doing – that the behaviour came from a drug mess up – but who wants to believe that? It was people giving her totally the wrong drugs and then, because they didn’t work, upping them – time and time again – until she was no longer herself. So sad.
As I said, Lori is a survivor, she has managed to get some good help, got off the problem meds and is well on her way to a normal life again.
I am sure some of you have your own horror stories around being judged and trying to restart your life. Feel free to leave any notes of encouragement (click at the bottom of the page) and I will pass them on to her. She also said she would come and join in a discussion one day, if the “family” would like that. She is really funny, by the way and has a heart of gold.
After lunch I went and got a much needed haircut and am now going to do some Suzie Homemaker stuff. Will come back later to wrap up the day.
Ah, well, the intention (to do some Suzie Homemaker stuff) was good. The reality was that I fell fast asleep! I just grabbed some cereal and now I think I will just get some more sleep. Obviously, I need it.
We finish our first week with 1010 subscribers, 3360 views and 221 comments. Quite the journey.
Lessons Learned: Blogs can have pages! Now I can have pages for certain subjects – :)))
