Then, to my right, I saw him. A young man, probably 16, was running for a bus. The bus was waiting at the bus stop and I was just thinking what a good day it was that the bus driver was waiting for the young man to get to the bus stop. He was running his heart out and then it happened. Just as the young man reached the bus shelter the bus pulled away!
I could not believe my eyes. The young man was, at most, three strides away from the door of the bus. I understand that a bus needs to run on a schedule but for the sake of three seconds you couldn’t wait for him to reach you? Really?
I cannot tell you how it effected me. I was suddenly very angry at the inhumanity of it. I watched the young man’s body language go from running towards his goal to total dejection. His pace slowed to a walk, his shoulders dropped and then so did his head. My heart bled for him. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t right. If you are going to leave him do so while he is still 30 paces away not when he is just 3 paces. It took every piece of my self-control to get back to into the mental zone.
I made a point of being more patient with people today.
