Baby

May 10, 2015 – Happy Mother’s Day

Sometimes, being a YouTuber feel like being a mother. You are constantly watching over your little “baby”, DearMamaSal. Trying to steer it in the right direction – right for me and the brand. You deal with criticism and have to stay the course of the direction. Occasionally, you get to “play” with your baby.

Such was our recent trip to Vegas. Five of us rented a house and decided that we would become a “family” for a week. We had good days and some not as good but, overall, we shared and cared for and about each other. We adjusted to different situations and found out we had friends we didn’t really believe existed.

Living with five people for a week taught me a great deal about my baby! I realized I was fiercely protective of her. I didn’t know that before this trip. It is a strange feeling. My baby is nearly 3 years old now. She is growing up fast. I had to remember that she is still vulnerable and needs protection until she can stand on her own two feet. However, like any mother, I am learning more about myself through the process.

I am still so thankful for the friendships and support networks we have created for our various viewers in need. I am constantly amazed at the deep care and support I get. My recent bout of viral bronchitis on my return from Vegas showed me that the super fans would rather I take a week off (to get my strength back) than have me push myself to produce footage or broadcasts. I felt supported and loved for that.

Mother’s day is very special to me this year. My baby is growing and our extended family continues to nuture and support her. I am blessed and truly thankful.

51. Definitely a week of memories

You have heard me repeat the adage: Life is about memories, not things and this week was full of memories.

On the downside (ying and yang): there was the Boston Marathon sadness closely followed by the fertilizer plant explosion and the horrid loss of life in both. These extraordinary memories will be etched in my mind for a lifetime – thanks, in part, to the 24/7 exposure given by the media and leading me to wonder if anyone could receive a “fair” trial in this day and age. Trial by media appears to be the new normal. Today I heard about a 35 year old who lost her fight with cancer. A lot of sadness for one week.

On the upside: I was able to do the “meet and greet” with one of our regulars on the TinyChat group, fondly known as “our Glen” – not to be confused with the other Glen from BlogTV. We all have a fondness for Our Glen. He has made us laugh until we cried, has demonstrated a very keen sense of concern for members of the DearMamaSal community and I was looking forward to meeting him. I was not disappointed! I laughed more in one evening than I have since… since… omg… now that I think of it…. since Christmas Eve!!!

For those who missed the broadcasts where we discussed the evening, know that Glen was a delight, beautifully mannered and very much the character we have come to love. As we suspected we would, we talked (non-stop) for 5 hours and didn’t run out of topics, views or debates. Glen called the (take a breathe non-hockey fans) Canucks run into the play-offs to a ‘T’ and now I pray that they make a decent go of it. So it was a fun evening and definitely one of the memories of the week.

Benji, Judy and Julianna came to visit and the few hours together flew by. It was amazing to think I had not seen them since January. http://youtu.be/XmBD0q6rBUk  Julianna had grown so much since I last held her.

To see her initially terrified by Beaner and then watch that fear turn to curiosity and then delight. Then to watch Beaner bring her his favourite toys… priceless. http://youtu.be/UnT-JKUMCA0

The last major memory of this memorable week is that I have passed 100 days of being smoke-free!

27. Come on, Juliana, we so want to meet you

It was so exciting to hear that Judy and Benji were at the hospital because Juliana has decided that she doesn’t want to wait until the end of the month to meet her mommy and daddy… she is pushing her way into the world today!

Of course, the joke is that I found out about it via the ItsJudysLife channel! Remember when we used to get phone calls?! Actually, I was so stunned that I didn’t even watch the vlog (going to do that in a few minutes) but I immediately sent a note through to the happy parents-to-be and wished them well.

I had better check the channel right now because the chances are that they would have announced the birth through there as well – be right back!!

She has arrived! She is weighed in at 8lbs. Welcome to our world, dear little Juliana.
